Listing Tips

The objective of your listing should be to get people interested in renting your property. Below you will find some tips to help you present your home in the best possible light.

Photos: Take advantage of the page design and submit three photos. If you don’t have three good photos of your vacation rental property, take some! We can always insert them at a later date.

Ideally, your photos will consist of three different shots:

  1. A view (area landscape, special view or scenic attraction) if you have one. If you are nestled in the woods, or your home has a special charm or character, an exterior of the property will work nicely.

  2. The living space. Make sure your photo captures any special features, such as a fireplace, eat in kitchen or balcony

  3. Recreational facilities or sleeping area.

Name: If you haven’t named your vacation rental property already, you might want to. Its optional, of course, but a good descriptive name can grab people’s attention and make them want to learn more.

Description: When you write your description, use words that will make people want to stay in your home. Use adjectives such as beautiful, spacious, rustic, airy, updated to entice potential renters. Remember NOT to include your phone number, e-mail address or other contact information in your description. There are designated spaces on your page for this information. Also, including a link or URL in the text areas of the page is not permitted.

Amenities: Use our check boxes to select any amenities that your vacation rental property offers. Then add anything else you offer in the  “other amenities” section. This might include things like: daily maid service, linens provided, includes breakfast, use of rowboat etc.

Area Attractions and Activities: Tell potential renters why yours is a great area to visit. List things to do in your town that will appeal to a variety of interests and point out any historical significance to the area. You might check with your local chamber of commerce, convention & visitors bureau or tourism websites for information to include here.

Rates: You may want to list out your rates by season, or simply list a price range. Either way, be sure to include information such as whether or not there are taxes included or if there is an additional cleaning fee. Also, include any other information, like whether you offer a discount for longer stays, or if a shorter stay is available. Availability Calendar: The availability calendar can be a useful tool. Provide the URL link (for example: http://calendar.yahoo.com/renterrific) to the calendar space and it will automatically be linked to your calendar.  The Calendar lets potential renters know when your property is (and is not) available for rent, and can reduce the number of inquiries you receive for dates that are already booked. If you use a calendar, keep it updated.

Remember, the more information you provide, the fewer questions you’ll get, and the more comfortable potential renters will feel about renting from you.

Finally, if you are unsure of what you want your page to say, you can send us an e-mail and ask us to look over it. We’ll offer our professional opinion to help you spruce up your page.

One last note: Please refer to our Listing Guidelines and Acceptable Content Policy pages for information on what can and cannot be included on your page.
